Hello everyone, my name is Andrew Luck. I currently am the starting quarterback at Stanford, and a holder of the 2010 Heisman trophy. People are calling me the number 1 draft pick for next season, but I am just happy to be playing out my junior year for a great team.
So here’s the thing… I know how the draft is designed. I know the worst teams get the first picks. I know that the Super Bowl winner gets last pick. I know that this helps all the teams have even leverage for rebuilding.
But seriously, how annoying is it to be the so-called “best” at what I do and have to go to the worst team? I hear they are calling the fight over me the “Luck Sweepstakes”. Without a chance of going to the playoffs, now the teams want to finish as terribly as they can just to have me as their first round draft pick. Let’s look at the options for me thus far as week 6 is about to start:
Dolphins: Well, at least the weather down there is unbeatable. I’ll be able to work on my tan while I contemplate how to bring back a team who tied a record for most losses in a season with 15, only second to the Detroit Lions in the 2008 season with 16 losses. (How bout’ them Lions this year?!) With Chad Henne out for the rest of the season, we will see if Matt Moore has what it takes to lose enough games to get the chance to win me in the draft.
Colts: Who would have thought they’d be in the Luck Sweepstakes? They are the only team in the NFL to win 12 or more games in 7 consecutive seasons. What an incredibly awful turnaround that no one expected, going from 10-6 to 0-5 so far this season. You could probably attribute their problems with the loss of Manning. I wouldn’t mind going to this team, as long as they promise to let me get some of Manning’s secrets to success!
Rams: They got a first round draft pick last year for a quarterback, they don’t need me! Sam Bradford was a great pick for a team that needs some help. He was the offensive rookie of the year for 2011, sharing that title with Ben Roethlisberger, Vince Young, and Matt Ryan. Not such bad boys to share a sentence with! Hopefully Bradford will improve as the season moves on so that I can stay clear of St. Louis.
At least its only week 6. In another 10 weeks, any team could have the bottom spot for the year. It will be interesting to see what team I actually end up on. Good “luck” to all!
